New Job!
The Open Planning Project has hired me to write Free Software for them. I start in mid-September. It's a bunch of Zope and Plone stuff, which I have mixed feelings about. One one hand, Python is pretty good. On the other hand, Zope is pretty awful. On the third hand, we'll be improving Zope. So I guess we'll see.

Please address future licensing questions to [info]stargazer, my replacement at FSF. :)

Congratulations! :-) I know what you mean about Zope being awful, but it can only get better now, right?

Argh. Well, rumor has it Zope is good now. And Plone is certainly fun and useful. Going to be a licensing volunteer now? ;)

Congrats! Jealous!

Ooh, and I'll be in NYC likely on August 11-12, if you want to hang...

The application/interview/waiting process took a full two months, but nothing compared to your people.

Oh, and I totally want to hang, but I'll be out of town that weekend. Unless you'll be around for lunch on the 11th?

If not, I'll see you in a month in Boston, right?

I could do lunch on the 11th -- my schedule's all flexible what with no bar and I was actually thinking about coming in early to see more people.

I'm so jealous! I need to get serious about looking for free software jobs. I just don't know where to start.

I found this one on Idealist. But it is one of only three interesting-looking jobs that I saw in six months. I applied for all three. The first, I bombed the interview. They were looking for someone with art cred. The second, I interviewed for and was accepted, but the pay sucked and the hours were long, and the job ended up sounding boring. The third was this one.

I don't know if TOPP is hiring more remote programmers, but if you're willing to move to New York, I think they may still be hiring here. I can definitely ask if you're interested.

I hope so too, if that's the reaction it gets.

Well, I guess going from a boss with a ... reputation to a project with a ... reputation would be an improvement.
